Kristine jakobsen creates the good experience

Kristine Jakobsen holds an MSc in Engineering (Digitalisation and Application Development) and is an interaction designer and Scrum Master at the software company TARGIT. Based on the customers' wishes and her knowledge of the technically possible, she creates the good user experience

Kristine Jakobsen first earned a Bachelor's degree in Experience Technology and later an MSc in Engineering (Digitalisation and Application Development). She brings a broad as well as unique background to the daily work at the Aalborg-based company TARGIT where she has two roles: Interaction Designer and Scrum Master.

- As an interaction designer, I liaise between our Professional Services department, which receives requests from customers, and the development department, which must determine what is technically possible. In my education, I acquired both the customer and the technical angle, so I can help create a common understanding of what the right solution could be, she explains.

Structure of the design

TARGIT develops Business Intelligence software and has 65 employees at its headquarters in Aalborg and offices in the USA, Germany, Greece and Brazil. The company was founded in 1986 and has since developed into one of the leaders in the business intelligence and analytics market. Tommy Jensen, Chief Technology Officer at TARGIT, explains why Kristine Jakobsen's profile was interesting for the company:

Our software includes lots of user interaction, so Kristine's skills in interaction design, design thinking and Scrum were crucial for us choosing her. She is very valuable to TARGIT because she represents a much-needed alignment of and structure to the interaction design.

In addition, her language skills enable her to collaborate effectively with our development team which is very international with colleagues from Belarus, Poland, Italy and Denmark. Her competencies in Scrum mean that in addition to working with interaction design on our software suite, she also works as Scrum Master on one of our projects in the development department.

As Scrum Master, Kristine Jakobsen facilitates the various activities in a development team based on the Agile development method Scrum such as planning individual development processes, daily stand-up meetings, reviews, etc.

As an interaction designer, Kristine Jakobsen gets right down to the details of the user interface of TARGIT's solutions. She makes sketches and mock-ups, and engages with a graphic designer and the front-end developers so that usability and functionality come together.

− I’ve used a lot of what I learned about the design and evaluation of user interfaces in my daily work. In addition, the many projects in my programme gave me experience and understanding of all parts of the development process – both the technical and processual aspects, she says.

A valuable contribution

Kristine Jakobsen feels that she makes a valuable contribution to TARGIT.

− First, the company now has an interaction designer who can standardize the design and create a good user experience through a unified and recognizable design across the solution. As a Scrum Master, I’ve been able to relieve those who previously dealt with these issues, so I believe and hope that I have been a breath of fresh air, looking at things with different eyes and from new angles.
