Torben Bach Pedersen, Professor at the Department of Computer Science, was awarded an honorary doctorate at a ceremony at the prestigious Technische Universit├Ąt Dresden (TU Dresden) on Wednesday, 29 September.

The Faculty of Computer Science, TU Dresden, has awarded professor Torben Bach Pedersen an honorary doctorate as a tribute to his outstanding scientific achievements within computer science, particularly within Big Data analytics and data-driven management of modern energy systems.

The honorary doctorate is also awarded in recognition of the great efforts on the part of Torben Bach Pedersen to promote European research and scientific education networks and for his close cooperation through the years with TU Dresden. In her speech at the ceremony, Professor Dr. and Rector at TU Dresden Ursula M. Staudinger also commended Torben Bach Pedersen for his focus on interdisciplinary research cooperation:

- Today, we not only honor an outstanding scientist of international standing, but also a strong advocate of interdisciplinarity, which is of outmost importance to our university in tackling the challenges that the 21st century has in store for us. We are honored to bestow this title upon him today.

In his speech, Torben Bach Pedersen expressed his gratitude for the honorary doctorate: 

- It makes me both proud and humble to receive this honorary doctorate. It has been a great pleasure to work together with the extremely gifted scientists at TU Dresden, and I am looking forward to continuing and expanding this cooperation.

Torben Bach Pedersen has been a professor at the Department of Computer Science, Aalborg University, since 2008. He has primarily been working with analytics and new applications of Big Data generated e.g. within energy, transport, logistics, production and Open Data. His research areas lie within Big Data analytics, including Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, multidimensional database, data integration, predictive and prescriptive analytics. Since 2013, Torben Bach Pedersen has been a member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences.
