VILLUM FONDEN announces in a press release that the foundation has elected Professor Christian S. Jensen to its board. Christian S. Jensen, Professor in the Department of Computer Science, conducts research on how to process and create an overview of enormous amounts of data that come from GPS devices, smartphones and computers – 'temporal and spatial-temporal data management'.

About Christian Søndergaard Jensen
Christian S. Jensen (b. 1963) received a computer science degree from Aalborg University where he also earned his PhD in 1991 following studies at the University of Maryland.
He became a research professor in 1998 and a professor in 2000 and also earned his DSc at Aalborg University. In 2010, he was appointed professor in computer science at Aarhus University. In 2013, he returned to Aalborg University. He has had several research stays at the University of Arizona and at Google, Mountain View, and has worked in the US for a total of six years.
He is an ACM Fellow (Association for Computing Machinery) and an IEEE Fellow (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).
Christian S. Jensen is also a member of Academia Europaea, the Royal Danish Academy of Science and Letters, and th Danish Academy of Technical Sciences. He is president of the steering committee for the Swedish National Research Program for Big Data. He is Editor-in-Chief of ACM Transactions on Database Systems and was also Editor-in-Chief of The VLDB Journal from 2008 to 2014.
As of March 13, 2018, Christian S. Jensen replaces Peter Landrock, Professor and Executive Chair, Cryptomathic, who, according to the foundation’s charter, completes his term after ten years on the board of VILLUM FONDEN.
